Info: A collision occurred between the freighter Balsa 37, the barge Ocean 255, and the barge Bouchard 155 in the shipping channel west of the Skyway Sunshine Bridge south of Mullett Key in Tampa Bay, FL. Three emergencies occurred: 1) the Balsa 37, carrying phosphate rock, was listing and in danger of capsizing; 2) the Ocean 255 was loaded with jet fuel, gasoline, and diesel fuel, and burning out of control; and 3) the Bouchard 155 was spilling 8000 barrels of # fuel into Tampa Bay. Within 18 hours, the Balsa 37 was run aground to prevent sinking, the Ocean 255’s fire was extinguished, and the GST main focus was on the spill response of the Bouchard 155.
